Joint Pack 525/575 Committee Meeting
Thursday, October 4th, 2007
Pack 575 Committee Chair - Keith Fitzpatrick
Pack 525 Committee Chair - Ross Dominy
- 1. Normal Business Matters
- a. Treasurer's Report - Since this is a pack specific item, we are moving it to each Pack's Den Leaders' meeting.
- b. Training - Patti Walker and Stephen Lorys. The next (and last for awhile) big day for training is Sat, Oct 27. Please register in advance. Scouters' Academy is at the Conyers Middle School on 11/3. Check the AAC website for info.
- c. Camping Safety. We had a great time on our Fall Campout, but there were some issues that need to be addressed soon - maybe via a camping clinic or a fire building class:
- i. There were some adults who had axes at their campsite. It is OK to have axes, but they need to be kept in an axe yard.
- ii. Some folks used liquid (white) fuel, not propane. Propane is the only fuel that can be used on Cub Scout functions.
- iii. Len Savini is going to pull together a Pack first aid kit. Pack 525 has one.
- d. New flag for flagpole at SUMC. We have noticed that the flag here needs replacing. Len will purchase a new one; we don't yet have a plan for presenting it to the church.
- e. Australia patch design. We want to have our boys design a patch representing our packs for the Centenary of Scouting. One idea is to have a 2 part design - one side for our guys, and one for the Aussies. We plan to give the patch to both sets of Scouts.
- f. Package for the Australia pack. We are gathering items showing what Scouting is like in the US. We hope to have it ready to mail by 10/18.
- g. Simpsonwood service projects. The Simpsonwood Conference Center has provided us with a list of service projects they'd like for us to do. There is a service time requirement for the Centenary Patch, and this is a great way to earn hours.
- h. Round Table - 7:30 pm October 16th @ Christ Church Episcopal, Holcomb Bridge Road.
- i. Quality reviews will now be conducted with rechartering.
•a. Popcorn sales are underway. Deadline for ordering is 10/23.
- b. Wood Badge Reunion at BASR on 10/13.
- c. Scout Day at the Thrashers, Oct 13, 7:00, Philips Arena
- d. Cub-O-Rama at BASR on 10/20 from 9-4. BB's and archery will be offered, among other activities.
- e. Scouting for Sundries. We'll be collecting sundries (shampoo, toothpaste, etc.) for our troops from Oct 21 thru the 27th. We'll work this like Scouting for Food - Scouts collect during the week and then bring their items to SUMC on Sat the 27th.
- f. Scout Day at Disney on Ice on 10/25 and 26 @ Philips Arena.
- g. Scout Day at NASCAR on 10/27th, Atlanta Motor Speedway.
- h. Scout Day at the Hawks@ Phillips Arena on 11/11, 2:00p.
- i. Scout Day at Fernbank, 11/3, 10-2.
- j. Troop 525 Webelos Outing to Allatoona, 10/19-21. A chance to experience Boy Scout camping and meet the troop.
- k. Troop 648 Webelos Outing to Trackrock, 11-17-18. Another chance to experience Boy Scout camping and meet the troop.
- l. Winter trip to Savannah, 2/8-10. We'll tour the Marine Center at Tybee Island, visit Fort Pulaski, and then take a ghost tour that evening. There are significant space limitations, so move quickly once we have the details set. There is capacity among both packs for 100 children and 30 grownups at the Tybee Marine Center.
